Obedience Classes

All obedience classes are taught inside

Unless otherwise noted, all classes are taught by the owner, Rachel Long, and cost $125 for six weeks. Classes last approx. 55 minutes, except for Puppy Preschool.

Pre-registration IS required - just email or telephone.

'''Puppy Preschool - Starts Sunday, January 9, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. - 45 - 50 minute class

Open to puppies 8 weeks – 16 weeks. MUST show proof of vaccinations.

This class covers topics designed to develop your puppy into a loving, well mannered family member, and to prevent future problems. Topics will include house-training, not jumping on people, preventing destructive chewing, and many other items. This class will also include basic obedience such as walking on leash, sit, down, stay, and come. However, it also allows puppies an opportunity to socialize with other humans and dogs in a safe, controlled way. This helps prevent fear based aggression and many other problems later on in life.

Larger more rambunctious puppies, and “bullies”, may be moved to a class with older dogs.

Basic Obedience - See new class start dates

Similar to Puppy preschool classes, except that more attention will be required. Topics addressed include walking on a loose leash, “give,” come when called (with distractions), down, sit, stay, “settle” and problem behavior will be addressed.

Canine Good Citizen - see new class start dates

This class prepares dogs and handlers to take the Canine Good Citizen test. At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity to take the examination. This will be performed by an independent evaluator, not the class instructor, and may be taken at a different facility.

Beyond Basic Obedience - will follow Basic Obedience See new class start dates.

This adds distraction and proofing to basic obedience commands. Also introduces jumping, retrieving, and some fun tricks to teach your dog. Class content will constantly evolve depending on the desires of the students. This class provides a solid foundation for most dog sports including agility, rally, competition obedience, and more.

Focus Class - starting February 2010 - please contact us if you're interested in this class

Does your dog find EVERYTHING more interesting that you? This class is designed to help handlers develop their dog's attention to them. This is essential for dog sports such as agility, obedience/rally, freestyle and just to have a well-mannered pet. For dogs who do not have any aggression issues OR have passed Dr. Lore Haug's "Reactive Dog" class.

Reactive Dog Class" - held on Mondays at 8:15 p.m. Taught by Dr. Lore Haug, DVM - veterinary behaviorist

This class is for dogs who bark/lunge and become uncontrollable in the presence of other dogs. In order to properly screen dogs, instructor permission is required.

'''Tricks Class - start date TBD

Prerequisite - a dog who is well mannered around other dogs, and who can perform basic obedience skills such as sit, down, stay. This is an ever-changing curriculum based on the wishes of the students. However, tricks such as roll-over, play dead, crawl, high-five or shake hands are always included.

Competition Classes - not currently scheduled'''

These classes will be taught at different levels to prepare your dog for AKC and UKC obedience competition.
